Introduction

FretMap is an interactive reference for exploring the guitar fretboard and the relationships behind its patterns. Its interactive diagrams cover notes, intervals, scales, chords, arpeggios, and progressions, with an emphasis on how these ideas connect across strings and positions. Rather than treating each shape in isolation, FretMap helps you compare patterns and follow the musical relationships between them.

Using this reference

The fretboard is a repeating system: the same notes and interval relationships appear in multiple positions. Recognizing those patterns makes it easier to locate notes, move between scale, chord, and arpeggio shapes, and see how progressions fit across the neck.

Use the guides to study a concept, trace it across the neck, or compare it with a related pattern. The material is intended as a practical companion for learning and playing, as well as a reference for exploring how the fretboard is organized.

Getting started

  1. Orient yourself: Start with landmark frets and natural notes to learn how to locate notes on the neck.
  2. Follow a pattern: Explore the minor pentatonic CAGED shapes and trace their notes across positions.
  3. Explore further: Choose a topic that matches what you want to study, from intervals to chords, arpeggios, scales, and progressions.
